FLY-TIPPING - Lib Dems are tackling the tippers

Cllr. Phil Redshaw’s campaign to tackle fly-tipping will result in two new CCTV towers for Cottingham. Phil said “I expect to see towers in place at each end of Orchard Park Road within July”.

The CCTV cameras will be live monitored, with various hi-tech features;

  • Multi-directional cameras
  • Number plate recognition
  • They will work in the dark!

An upgraded streetlight CCTV camera has also been introduced on Middledyke Lane.

New legislation means that Councils now have the power to seize, crush or sell vehicles involved in fly-tipping, something that Phil was calling for in a BBC Look North interview back in February.

East Riding Lib Dems improve bus timetables

Cllr. Phil Redshaw recently approached East Yorkshire Buses about the confusing electronic timetable displays on The Green.

They have now updated ALL the displays to reflect the ‘dynamic destination’ as it appears on the timetables, rather than the locality.

So, when at The Green, the display will read as ‘Castle Hill Hospital’ rather than ‘Cottingham’ which makes a lot more sense.

Nice to know EY Buses are prepared to listen!

Phil also had the Council add a new timetable holder at the bus stop on Harland Way near Wilson Drive, and a new timetable is now in place.

Yorkshire water

Sewage & Waste Water Discharges Yorkshire Water under scrutiny

When discharge data for 2024 was published in March, Cllr Phil Redshaw conducted a full analysis of all of the outlets across the East Riding, compared to Yorkshire Water’s base data for 2021.

The number of incidents were up 31% and the number of discharge hours was up 118%.

Having written to Yorkshire Water, Phil is seeking explanations as to why their lauded £1.5bn investments across Yorkshire’s Sewage overflows are simply not addressing any of the worst sites in the East Riding. He is also pressing them for a detailed analysis of some additional schemes which they claim will start to address these.

Phil will look to tackle Yorkshire Water again when they make their annual appearance before the Council’s Environment & Regeneration Scrutiny Committee in October.

NHS Hearing Aids - Free replacement batteries more easily available

When Lloyds Chemist on Hallgate closed, residents found themselves having to travel to the Audiology Department at Castle Hill to obtain their free replacement batteries, which was becoming an issue for many.

Cllr. Phil Redshaw approached Cottingham Library to see if they could help, and following further discussions with the Audiology Team, they happily agreed to take this on.

Foam insulation used in lofts is causing problems

Spray Foam insulation: Highlighting concerns

Following an approach by a local resident, Cllr. Phil Redshaw has been highlighting issues of spray foam insulation when used as roof insulation, with the Council’s Trading Standards Team.

This process is still being promoted, yet householders are being affected due to issues with moisture trapping, potential timber decay, difficult expensive removal, non-recyclable materials and mortgage lenders' reluctance to lend on properties with it.

If you have been affected, advice is probably best sought from an organisation like the Citizens Advice Bureau.

East Riding Liberal Democrats will work with Luke Campbell as mayor, but will stand firm against any divisive politics

Following the election of Luke Campbell as Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, the Liberal Democrats respect the new mayoral office and will work to make it a success for the people of Hull and East Yorkshire. We want to see the new funds used to bring in much-needed investment for business, growth, prosperity and jobs.

There is a lot to be done in East Yorkshire - transport improvements, broadband improvements in the rural areas, more employment options for the coastal communities, build on the region's good start on renewables, make communities safer and much more. We are sure everyone agrees on this.

So, we start with a clean sheet - if the new mayoralty is used constructively for all of the communities of East Yorkshire as a vehicle for progress and prosperity, we will be very happy.

We trust that the divisive politics of culture will not be introduced into our wonderful region and that all of our communities can feel a part of it going forward.

Have you tried getting an NHS dentist in the East Riding?

We are applying as much pressure as we can to improve local dentistry services to ensure that residents have access to NHS dentistry.

We believe that it is especially important that children have access to NHS dentistry.

The withdrawal of NHS dentistry amounts to a huge new extra tax on families.

Sewage in the rivers and on the beaches of the East Riding

We are applying pressure to cut the discharges of sewage and hold the local water company to account. We believe that the tourism and leisure economy of the county is at risk due to reckless discharge of raw sewage into our local environment.
