Lib Dems win victory on car parking charges in Anlaby

Plans to introduce car parking charges in Anlaby have been scrapped — thanks to strong opposition from local Liberal Democrats and pressure from the community.
The Conservative-run East Riding Council wanted to bring in charges for Anlaby’s 92 free parking spaces on Hull Road and Wilson Street. But after a campaign led by Lib Dem councillors Ross Harrison and Margot Sutton, the plans have now been dropped.
The charges were formally rejected last September when the car parking review was voted down. Since then, Lib Dem councillors have kept up the pressure to make sure the decision sticks — and now it has. This is a big win for local businesses, shoppers, and common sense.
Councillor Ross Harrison said: "We stood up for Anlaby residents and businesses from day one. These charges would’ve been damaging and unfair — and we’re proud to have helped stop them. It shows what we can achieve when the community and councillors work together.”
