DIY SOS delivers in Beverley

Investment in youth services has long been a priority for Beverley’s Liberal Democrat team – but nothing could have prepared them for what happened this month.
Thanks to years of tireless local campaigning and a televised transformation by the BBC’s DIY SOS, young people in Beverley now have a brand-new youth hub at Mudhills on Burden Road.
Built in just eight days with the help of 200 volunteers, this stateof-the-art building will provide a permanent, purpose-built home for Cherry Tree Youth Club – and a lifeline for local teenagers for generations to come.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Tony Henderson said:
“There has never been enough for young people in Beverley. The Conservative-led council shut the old youth club down years ago. Since then, Cherry Tree has survived in church halls, cramped changing rooms, and even a pop up gazebo.
“Through sheer grit and perseverance, they eventually got some shipping containers and made them work. That spirit is what got them on the radar of Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team – and the result is breathtaking.”
The Lib Dem team secured £150,000 for youth provision in this year’s Council budget – but even they say this build has exceeded every expectation.
“Being part of this project is a highlight of my life,” added Cllr Henderson
