Jayne’s Frisbee Campaign

Last year, Councillor Jayne Phoenix started a campaign to raise the issue of flying ring frisbees being used on beaches or places close to the sea and juvenile seals getting them caught around their necks.
She called for local retailers to sell solid frisbees instead. The call came as part of a campaign to reduce the number of seal injuries caused by the plastic rings, often causing horrific harm and sometimes a slow death for the young seals.
Once again now that summer is upon us, the Liberal Democrat ward councillors are asking the public to be aware of the harm these objects cause to sea creatures, and we are encouraging independent retailers to follow the example of the major supermarket chains.
Let's do all we can to let our lovely sea creatures to be safe in their natural environment.
