Labour government's £62 million 'Fair Funding' cut threatens East Riding's future
Phil said "The scheme is flawed and stacked against the East Riding, ignoring the true costs of social care, delivering services in a rural and coastal setting, significant areas of deprivation and a comparatively older population." The Council overwhelmingly backed Phil’s motion opposing the cuts. Only Labour Cllrs voted against.
Liberal Democrat councillors are backing a Zero-Based Budget Review to rebuild the budget from scratch to protect essential services, whilst criticising the Tory-led Council for being well behind the curve on restructuring, which further threatens council finances.
Phil warned: “This isn't a normal budget. Get it wrong and the services that keep our communities safe, roads usable and our economy moving will be cut. Fail to balance the books and we face a Government takeover, deep cuts and huge council tax hikes.
