Phoenix Ward by election this week
With just a few days to go, the Phoenix Ward by-election is shaping up to be a close contest between Labour and the Liberal Democrat candidate Andrew Ellwood. Andrew lost out by just four votes in May but many former Labour voters are switching to the LibDems as they feel betrayed by the Labour Councillor resigning after just three months in the job. With Andrew Ellwood's record of hard work for the ward over the last four years, it is an easy switch for them to make.

Imagine a tree ...
The Woodland Trust has launched an initiative to double native woodland cover under the banner of 'More Trees, More Good'. Part of this initiative includes a mass public consultation about where more trees should be planted through a campaign called MyView.

Chelmsford council ready if/when Dale Farm evictions go ahead
Chelmsford council has put in place arrangements in case traveller caravans appear on private land following enforcement action by Basildon Borough Council at Dale Farm. The Council will be providing a standby out-of-hours Planning Enforcement service.
