Burt and Swinson comment on gender pay gap report
The Resolution Foundation today published research into the gender pay gap which shows that it has fallen to just 5% for women in their 20s but that there is still a huge lifetime deficit for women. They said: Looking at women's early careers, the analysis finds that baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1965) experienced a pay gap of 16 per cent during their 20s. That gap fell to 9 per cent for women in generation X (born between 1966 and 1980) and then to 5 per cent for millennials (born between 1981 and 2000).

Diversity in local elections: once again, no progress for Lib Dems
The proportion of Liberal Democrat local council candidates candidates who are female continued to flat-line in 2016 as it has now for nearly thirty years, becalmed at a level well short of the proportion of members who are female, the proportion of Liberal Democrat supporters who are female and the proportion of the electorate who are female. Despite a promising little blip last year the overall picture, with variations through the four years local election cycle*, has been pretty simple: a long term upward trend for just under twenty years to a little over a third and then flat for the last near-thirty years.

Council question time: Time to have your say
Lib Dem leader Councillor Andy Kelly has called for local residents and businesses to take part in Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council's public question time. Residents or business ratepayers of the borough can formally put questions to the leader of the council Richard Farnell or any member of the council's Cabinet. This is an opportunity for people to have their say on any issue they think is appropriate. According to the council's constitution, you can submit any question no longer than 100 words in length to the council's chief executive Steve Rumbelow. In this case, as the January meeting has been cancelled, the next meeting is on 1st March.
