The results are out for the elections to Kent County Council. The Conservatives sensationally lost Folkestone West (previously held by District Council leader Robert Bliss) to the Lib Dems in Shepway, but held the other five seats. Across Kent, the Lib Dem group is up one to seven, and are now the official opposition to the Conservatives after disastrous results for Labour saw them lose 18 of their 20 seats.

Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats scored significant wins in the elections, taking both council seats in Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath, as well as winning Hassocks and Imberdown; and winning half the wards in Mid Sussex by taking an additional three seats from the Conservatives.
The Liberal Democrats have become the largest party on the new unitary Bedford Borough Council after a superb set of election results announced today. The Lib Dems won 13 seats, the Conservatives just 9, while Labour and Independents won 7 each. The result saw the Lib Dems move from being the second largest group on the council to the largest, thanks to a series of victories in urban and rural wards across the Borough as the party increased its proportion of seats on the council.
According to the BBC's estimated projected national vote share based on the local elections - the Conservatives are on 38%, the Lib Dems are in second place on 28% and Labour are third with 23% - a historic low.
