The deadline for nominations to be the next MP for Folkestone and Hythe was 4pm, and the accepted nominations have been announced by Shepway Council. Lib Dem candidate Lynne Beaumont is facing six other candidates in a contest widely expected to be a clear choice between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative candidate.

The Liberal Democrats have launched their plans to create jobs that last by stimulating a green, sustainable economy. The plans include investing in wind energy, energy efficiency in public buildings and homes, and bringing empty homes back into use through renovation.

Temporary closure for refurbishment works to Folkestone Library
Kent County Council are promising a selection of new books, an improved layout and a bigger children's section including computers will be some of the changes being made at Folkestone Library when refurbishment works start there next month.

Kent Highways have notified that because of urgent carriageway repairs, it will be necessary to temporarily close Godwyn Road & Ravenlea Road, Folkestone at their junctions with Shorncliffe Road.
