The consultation over the plans for merging West Wirral Fire Stations has now ended. The consultation process descended into chaos within weeks of starting after Wirral Council withdrew its offer of a site in the centre of Greasby after very strong public objections. Wirral's Labour run council had completely misjudged local feeling over the plan to demolish the library and children's centre. The Chief Fire Officer had expressed a preference for building a new fire station on Pump Lane and has also been told by Wirral Council of council-owned land on Saughall Massie Road that they seem to be willing to allow the Fire Service to use, despite it being in the Green Belt.
