David Wedgwood in his letter (BFP 20th March) in referring to the EU finding for rural business and start ups in the villages around Bury St Edmunds stated 'why on earth we have to crawl to the EU to get some of our money back.' Emotive words indeed. They are also the language of failure when rational argument has failed.

Jack Straw rejects Arms Ban on Israel

Blackburn Labour MP and former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has rejected Blackburn Council's motion asking for an Arms' Ban on Israel. The Liberal Democrat proposal, which received all-party support at a recent Council Meeting, called on Jack Straw to use his influence to ask the Cabinet to introduce such a ban.

Folkestone Leas Lift Decision "Called in" to Scrutiny at Shepway

The decision by the Shepway Council Cabinet to immediately terminate the lease of the Folkestone Leas Lift and stop running the lift has been "called in" to Shepway's Corporate Scrutiny Committee. The meeting at 7pm on 31st March at Shepway Civic Centre is open to the public and will hear from local groups and residents on the impact of the decision.
