The Hitchin and Harpenden website won an award at the Liberal Democrat regional conference in Huntingdon on Saturday. Alan Window, who handed out the awards, commended the use of images and the fact that the website had been recently updated. Said parliamentary candidate, Nigel Quinton, "I am delighted with this award - thanks to Amelia, Rob, Anthony and Louise who have helped develop the site over the past 24 months".

Lib Dem motion to adopt 10:10 referred to Cabinet for decision

At the Spelthorne Council meeting on 29th October the Liberal Democrat group proposed a motion seeking to get the Council to sign-up to the 10:10 campaign. This is a grass roots campaign to get individuals and organisations to cut their energy consumption by 10% in 2010 to help arrest the progress of climate change.

The scale of the task faced by the new regime of Mayor Dave Hodgson in delivering a budget which keeps tax down and protects vital services after the Tory County Council left its finances in a perilous state has been revealed. Newly-appointed Finance Portfolio Holder, Liberal Democrat Cllr Michael Headley, has set out Bedford Borough Council's current financial situation and declared that the council must make sure that 'every penny' of its budget delivers for local residents.
