To mark International Day against Homophobia, Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman and London MEP Sarah Ludford, a Vice-Chair of the Liberal Democrat LGBT group Delga and an active member of the European Parliament lesbian & gay rights intergroup said, "Homophobia is still widespread in the 21st century and the fight against it must be reinforced. It can be vicious and life-threatening, as in aggressive legislation abroad; prejudiced, as in attitudes even in EU countries; or insidious as in football or the media here. Whatever from it takes, it is unacceptable."
After many hours of detailed negotiations the Liberal Democrat group have agreed to run Wolverhampton city council in coalition with the Conservative group. Announcing the Liberal Democrat 42 point work programme for this municipal year Councillor Robin Lawrence said "While the Liberal Democrats long term aim is to become the largest party in the city we believe that we have forged the best deal for the city at this time."
Cllr David Foster, Leader of the Lib Dem Group on Blackburn with Darwen Council attended the special conference in Birmingham called to discuss the recently negotiated coalition agreement which brings Liberal Democrats into a coalition government for the first time in over 60 years. He said, "The conference showed how much we have matured as a Party. There was very little opposition. Many people said they had doubts and there were dangers, but they were prepared to accept the risks in the national interest. Most people agreed with Vince Cable who said the Party has to move out of its comfort zone and its biggest comfort zone is opposition.
The Mayor attended the opening of the exhibition at Quarterhouse, Folkestone, to explain the new outline proposals for the development of the Folkestone Seafront owned by Roger De Haan, presented by Sir Terry Farrell
