Congratulations to Cllr Helen Chuah who was successfully re-elected to St Anne's & St John's ward on Colchester Council along with her Liberal Democrat colleagues.
Helen Korfanty writes... Well, what a week it has been! I would like to thank everyone in Suffolk who voted for me in the PCC...
After becoming Leader of the Liberal Party in Canada, Justin Trudeau wrote an autobiography "Common Ground". The early chapters cover his life as the son of a Prime Minister, then his career as a bouncer, ski instructor and high school teacher. The book moves on to how he became a non-party political activist, then a Liberal candidate and (by just a few hundred votes) an MP in 2008, then party leader in 2013. To me, a very interesting part of the book is that which deals with events after 2011.
Wiltshire Liberal Democrats produced a shock by-election result on May 5th as candidate Jamie Capp won Amesbury East by five votes. The 20-year-old former Stonehenge School pupil swept to victory in a seat not even contested by the party three years ago. He secured just over a quarter of the votes (25.7 per cent), beating the Conservative into second place.
We are pleased to announce that our North Worcestershire Liberal Democrats vice-chair, Shazu Miah, won a seat on Wyre Forest district council and Councillor Fran Oborski, treasurer, won our first Lib Dem seat on Kidderminster's newly established town council. This is in addition to her seats on Wyre Forest district and Worcestershire County councils. Good wishes to both as they keep the Lib Dem voice heard locally.
