Founded originally in France in 1949 Europcar is now an international European company quoted on the London Stack Exchange in which hospitality group Accor and motor manufacturer Volkswagen are major stakeholders.

A new ticketing system is being trialled in Blackburn with Darwen. It is part of the smart ticketing project. Customers will be able to get a card which they can then charge with money, which can be used to pay for bus fares. It avoids the need to carry lots of change.
