Theresa May urged to appoint a Learning Disability Commissioner
The "shocking" case of a man with learning disabilities and terminal cancer has led to a call for the prime minister to appoint a commissioner for learning disabled people's rights. Ian Shaw, 34, spent nine years in secure hospitals before being moved into community care last year. The cancer was found and his parents say the units should have spotted it.

Tory cuts target the disabled
As part of the Tories' cuts to welfare spending they have tightened the rules for Motability vehicles. Under the old rules the test was being unable to walk for 50 metres without help even if this was difficult and painful for you. But this has been cut to just 20 metres and has meant that about half the disabled people who used to get Motability vehicles have lost access to them.

An evening out to Kendal
Following receiving and email from the NW branch of the Liberal Democrats I decided to go to the Cheese and Wine evening in Kendal on 7th July. I am new to the Liberal Democrats and only joined just before the General Election. I saw that Tim Farron was the speaker, which is why I chose to go to this particular event. I suppose it was in my excited attitude of being new to the party, I thought this was a big event for the whole of the North West, especially with Tim Farron being the guest speaker. So off I went with all the newbie attitude that I had.
