Summer rail disruption - it's over.
Here's a statement from Network Rail: "We have reached the end of the six week project to start preparing the railway line for electrification. We successfully handed back the line, on time, at 05:15 am, on 1 September to First Great Western. The first train to go through Box Tunnel left Bristol Temple Meads at 5:29 am exactly on time. Over the last six weeks, our 'orange army' did a fantastic job, lowering and replacing 10km of track in Bath and the surrounding area in preparation for the arrival of a new fleet of longer, faster, quieter and greener electric trains. As part of the £50m project, our team also installed 11 new switches and crossings at Bathampton Junction, which enable trains to move from one track to another. This project is the largest we have carried out to date and is the biggest on the Western route for 40 years. It has been a complex job, given the historic architecture and infrastructure we worked with, but we completed the work on time ready to re-open the line to passengers on the mo
