Local Choices, Local Decisions: The Lib Dem Pledge for Shepway Local Elections 2011

The Liberal Democrats in Shepway are fielding more candidates than any party other than the ruling Conservatives at the 2011 local elections. As the official opposition to the Conservatives over the past four years, it is the Liberal Democrats who have held the Conservatives to account on the issues that matter locally - from the closure of the Leas Lift, to the expansion of Lydd Airport, and opposing a massive 6.5% rise in Council house rents this year.

A new collaboration with Lib Dems Abroad, HK branch

Joint Chinese Liberal Democrat membership officers Yeing-Lang and Roger Crouch met up with members of the newly formed Hong Kong branch of Liberal Democrats Abroad on their recent trip to HongKong. Whilst the branch is a new one, the Liberal Democrats (and before the merger, the SDP and Liberal Parties) have been active in Hong Kong since the 1980s. When he was leader, Paddy Ashdown was a frequent visitor and obtained a high profile, given his Mandarin language skills, in Hong Kong particularly following the events of 1989.

My Record as Mayor - Delivering for Local Residents Across Bedford Borough

The key issue in the Mayoral election campaign has been the need to protect vital services for local residents while keeping tax down, at a time of real financial difficulties. In my short period as Mayor since October 2009, during which we have had to make £28 million of savings, I have prioritised the protection of services and, thanks to our approach of targetting waste and bureaucracy within the Council and focusing savings in Borough Hall rather than out in the community, we have avoided the widespread cuts seen elsewhere nearby across the country. I am proud to stand on my record, some examples of which have been uploaded onto this website in a list headed 'What a Difference a Dave Makes!" You can find it by clicking on the link at the top of the homepage here on www.mayordave.org.uk, or go straight to it here. Please have a look at some of the work I have been doing as Mayor.
