The right to a decent home

The right for everyone to have a decent home is emerging as one of the big themes of Tim Farron's leadership. WC Toilets to go

The latest service to be axed by Wiltshire Conservatives is public conveniences. These were provided by the old District Councils as a service to the public but Wiltshire Council says it can't afford to run them. The eponymous council says: "We know that public conveniences provide an important facility across a number of areas in Wiltshire. The cost of providing the service, the cleaning, maintenance and repair as well as effects of vandalism and graffiti mean that Wiltshire Council can no longer fund the service. This will mean that certain facilities currently run by Wiltshire Council will be transferred, sold or given to other organisations or groups that may be able to run the facilities themselves. If this is unsuccessful these facilities will close."

Lib Dem conference: Farron's first leader speech

Tim Farron's "mission" as Liberal Democrat leader is to get them "back in power at every level throughout Britain", he has told activists. The new leader spoke for 40 minutes as he gave his first speech to the conference since taking over from Nick Clegg in the summer.

Doddinghurst Road safety issues forced on to agenda

People power finally forced the Tory administration to listen to the issues in Doddinghurst Road on Monday night when Cllr Barry Aspinell encouraged families to atttend the Highways Panel and force the Tories to listen to the problems caused by the volume of people traffic and the worries that there would be an accident.
