Through my role as a youth worker I work regularly with schools. I come across many teachers (often unsung heroes), who are struggling daily with a rising tide of mental health issues affecting their pupils. Unfortunately, they do not have the training, time or resources to be able to address fully the mental health needs of these young people, and very few Hemel Hempstead secondary schools still have dedicated Mental Health professionals.

Responding to the news about the Court of Appeal's rejection of Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator's (BACI) challenge over the Environmental Permit for the Covanta Incinerator at Rookery Pit near Stewartby, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Elstow, Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick Tim Hill said:
Joined up, Properly Funded Mental Health Care Provision for the Young One of the most serious issues facing the UK today is mental health, particularly in young people. Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year of whom one quarter will be aged 18 or under; one in seven 11 to 16-year-olds has a mental disorder. We know that children and young people today face new emotional demands, many brought on by social media, but our mental health care systems have not adapted to this growing need and are chronically underfunded with serious structural issues. The mental health care system is complex and fragmented; it is planned, funded, provided and overseen by many different organisations that do not always work together in a joined-up way leading to disjointed care.
