Tory package of £21Billion Tax cuts confused and irresponsible

The Conservative Tax Reform Commission has reported, recommending £21 billion of tax cuts. The Commission proposes cutting the basic income tax rate, raising the earnings threshold for income tax, cuts in business tax and the abolition of inheritance tax. The Tory Shadow Chancellor said he would adopt some of the ideas but said other changes - such as higher green taxes - would mean the overall tax take would not be cut: "We will not be promising reduction in taxation at the election. Any changes in taxes will be revenue neutral."

Chipped! New passports mark first step to ID Cards

Lib Dem and anti-ID card campaigner Darren Briddock is one of the first in the country to receive a new "Chipped" passport. The new passport contains limited "biometric" data on a machine readable chip, and have only been issued in the UK for the past few weeks.

Government must rethink abolition of the Post Office Card Account

Commenting on new figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats that show 28,610 residents in Wolverhampton use the post office card account to receive their pensions or benefits. The Government is planning to scrap the Post Office Card Account in 2010 leaving many thousands without any form of bank account.
