Buckingham Constituency Party marks end of biggest year of membership growth
The deeper we go into December, the more likely people are to have social events that drive out politics. And in such a year as this, it is understandable that people want to lighten up. And there was the rival attraction of the Aylesbury party's social evening in a pub just down the road. That said, it was very good to see new members turn up to our monthly executive meeting last night and find out about the more formal work we do behind the scenes. The business included preparations for the county council elections in 2017, and we discussed our strategy. If we are to achieve the kind of liberal society we aspire to, it has to begin with winning seats on local councils, as a route to influencing decision making at local and national level. There were councillors' reports, a report on the growth in our membership - which is now the highest in the local party's history - and fixing a date for our next meeting, which is Tuesday, 10 January. Full and proper consultation needed on green bin services - Cllr Jerry Roodhouse
Following complaints from local residents, Councillor Jerry Roodhouse has sent an Open Letter to Cllrs Mike Stokes, Leader of Rugby Borough Council and Lisa Parker, Environment & Public Realm Portfolio Holder to ask that the survey process around the Council's decision to stop green bin services until March be shelved and replaced with a clear and transparent consultation that explains the whole situation and gives residents alternatives.

A New Hope
This is the next of a series of postcards which Anita Day, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Grantham and Stamford has written to members and supporters I'm feeling rather happy at the moment, hence my reference to possibly my favourite film of all time in the title! Perhaps partly in response to Postcard #4, but more likely due to last week's progress in Sleaford, several people have contacted me and asked how they could get actively involved in campaigning for us in some form or another (and in one case, I bullied them… you know who you are, Sean!) So the net result is that South Lincs now has an active Campaign Team, comprising:

Lib Dems repeat calls for council non-jobs to be scrapped
Councillor Andy Kelly, leader of Rochdale Liberal Democrats will repeat his call for Assistant Cabinet Members to scrapped at tomorrow (Wednesday) night's council meeting. He claims that the controversial report of the Independent Remuneration Panel back up his calls. In the section of the report looking at Assistants to Cabinet Members it states that they are not formal deputies for Portfolio Holders, they can't operate as formal substitutes, nor exercise any executive powers.
