The Liberal Democrats have placed a petition on the website of the Prime Minister for Gurkha Justice. Despite winning a pledge from the Government in 2004 to offer citizenship rights to Gurkhas, the Home Office continue to block and delay many applications. Gurkha pensions are also between 1/8th and 1/6th that of comporable service pensions. If you feel that this treatment of retired Gurkha soldiers who have fought for and served Britain is wrong, please sign the petition on the 10 Downing Street web site.
Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Wednesday 3rd January) welcomed news that 97 per cent of pledges (437 out of 450) in the LibDem/Labour Partnership Agreement in the Scottish Parliament have been met or are on track.
DELGA is kicking off the new year by encouraging our members to get more involved in the Liberal Democrats' policy making process at the first stage - the policy making groups connected to the party's Federal Policy Committee (FPC). Commenting on increased rail fares which come into force today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, Alistair Carmichael MP said: "The Department for Transport is determined to micromanage every aspect of our railways, apart from the one which matters most to passengers. At a time when some train operators are removing seating in order to cram on more passengers, these price rises are a bitter pill to swallow."
Following the recently announced plan by the Labour Westminster Government to close 2,500 post offices, Dundee Liberal Democrats have today added their support to a national campaign for action to protect the Post Office network.
