EU to standardise mobile chargers

The persistence of the European Liberal Democrat MEPs has paid off. They have secured a pledge that the EU will seek to harmonise mobile chargers. The aim is to reduce costs for European consumers currently obliged to replace chargers which still work, and to cut the enormous quantity of waste generated.

Direct Choice Insurance to relocate to Cheriton

Ineffective VAT cut only helping the rich

A leading local Liberal Democrat has slammed the government's VAT cut as ineffective. Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth has attacked the cut after figures were published showing that the cut has benefited the richest households the most. The richest households will save around £1.2bn from the Government's VAT cut, while the poorest 10% will only save an estimated £360m.

Merridale Liberal Democrat campaigner Nazim Hussain has welcomed the changes made to Merridale Road between Finchfield Road and Merridale Lane will contribute considerably to improved road safety. "The pinch points will not only reduce speeds but also prevent some of the dangerous over taking I have observed" he added.

Heather Kidd Wins National Campaigning Award

Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Ludlow, Heather Kidd (above), has won the Countryside Alliance's 'Grassroots Campaigner of the Year' award for her efforts in campaigning on behalf of schools, post offices and other rural services. There were 2,500 nominations for a variety of national awards from 'Community Shop of the Year' and' Rural Business of the Year' to' Rural Vision' and 'Rural Hero of the Year'.
