Stockton Liberal Democrats are welcoming progress in progress on a cycles safety campaign. Cycle safety campaigners from the region have joined forces with Olympic gold medalist Chris Boardman in Brussels today to support tighter EU rules aimed at cutting the number of road deaths.

Labour MP Slams ‘Unacceptable’ Capita Disability Benefit Assessments

Labour MP, Peter Hain, has called on disability benefit assessment firm Capita and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to "urgently reform" its "punitive" assessment process, which is "causing no end of misery" to sick and disabled claimants, before it descends into similar "problems experienced with ATOS and the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) assessments".

Conservative Surrey’s Budget: £22 million of Black Holes and No ‘Plan B’

Members of Surrey County Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee were stunned today when the Conservative Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care announced that £19 million of savings in the budget for 2014/15 being discussed at the meeting of the Conservative Cabinet next week "will not be achieved". The savings are planned in the budget by switching care to "social capital" under the Friends, Family and Community Support programme.
