An important commuter route to Tring Station has been rather neglected over the years. Used by hundreds of cyclists and pedestrians every day the path had been getting somewhat overgrown.
Liberal Democrat County Councillors are calling for the Leader of Surrey County Council to release a secret letter he has written to Surrey MPs regarding the county council's finances. The letter, referred to as "certain communications from me on behalf of all of you" by the Leader of the Council at the council meeting on 6th December 2016, is believed to spell out in stark terms the financial position of the authority but has not been shared with elected members. It follows council meetings held in October and December 2016 where councillors of all parties agreed that the Leader of the Council should lobby central government for more funding for the council to help meet increased demand for services. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, who is a Surrey MP, should also have been sent a copy of the letter. Rochdale Liberal Democrats have paid tribute to the late Norman Smith MBE who has sadly died. Norman died following a long battle against Alzheimer's and vascular dementia. Norman represented the Spotland and Falinge Ward of Rochdale MBC from 1973 and 2004. Norman died at Rochdale Infirmary. His funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council have spent £55,315.77 compensating motorists for damage caused by potholes since 2012, figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats have revealed. Nationally a total of £12 million has been paid out over the last four years, with an average payment per person of £650.
Mark Stidworthy has won a seat on Ilkley Parish Council. He polled 429 votes against Labour's 171.
