Liz Leffman narrows the odds of a Lib Dem victory at Witney
It's all go at Witney. Here are some of the highlights of the last few days: Hundreds of helpers descended on our Witney HQ over the weekend, with queues of party activists outside the building on Sunday morning, keen to do canvassing and leaflet delivery Special pink Liz Leffman diamond posters have gone up to raise awareness of Breast cancer. Two people came off the street to help the campaign on Saturday and, when they'd finished, joined the party. Liz Leffman has launched a new petition to save services being cut by the Tories at local hospitals. Liz Leffman started as a 50/1 outsider with the bookies. It is time to see spending on mental health as an investment not a cost
On a recent Question Time there was an excellent debate on the future funding of the NHS and social care. Norman Lamb, the former Care Minister and Lib Dem MP made a passionate plea for greater investment in the NHS and in particular on mental health. Tory MP, Jacob Rees Mogg, unsurprisingly, countered that the UK cannot pay more tax. Even the usually more Conservative Julia Hartley Brewer nodded in agreement when Lamb outlined how little we spend on health as a proportion of GDP, which by the way is less than other European countries including Portugal.

Sandgate Parking Decision Needs Scrutiny
Following the publication of Shepway District Council's decision to proceed with the Sandgate East CPZ, the remaining Council process open to us is to see the decision "called-in" to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee. That committee can look at the decision in detail, the reasons it was taken, the evidence on which the decsion was based and make recommendations on either upholding, amending or changing the decision. Although the view of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee is advisory and not compulsory, it gives the Cabinet Member for Transport as opportunity to change his mind.
