The Liberal Democrats' Cllr Neil Sandison consistently raises the drop in footfall in Rugby's Town Centre and proposes ways to address the problem - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a9Qkm and http://rugby.lib.dm/a3Zm2. When the town's cabinet met last (June 2015) Neil was the only councillor to raise the 12% drop in visitors to the town centre.
Tomorrow, Saturday 15th August sees Mayor Dave Hodgson's Village Tour 2015 kick off with a series of open street surgeries in rural villages in the north of Bedford Borough. Mayor Dave has held a village tour every summer since he was elected as Mayor in October 2009, during which he holds open street surgeries in villages right across the Borough.
Mayor Dave Hodgson has offered his congratulations to students after yesterday's A Level results publication revealed an increase in the number of local young people achieving top grades. Based on returns from the 7 upper schools, provisional A Level results show 42% of pupils achieved one or more A* - A grades, an improvement on last year. This improvement stands in contrast to the national pitcture, with the proportion of students across the country achieving a top grade falling slightly.
I never thought I might be saying this about a left-wing politician, but is it possible that the current frontrunner in the Labour leadership election might actually be right? At least, in part.
