Merlene joined Citizens UK, Spectrum Radio and other Chinese community groups in their organised protest and rally on Gerrard Street, Sunday 7 November. Right behind their stand, were the premises that only 2 weeks ago had been given planning approval by Westminster Council to become yet another gambling outlet.

In response to Brentwood Leisure Trust's application for an alcohol license at Merrymeade House, Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood North's Liberal Democrat councillors have met with residents of Merrymeade House, Brentwood Place, Burland Road and Highland Avenue to discuss their concerns and involve them in the Council's licensing process.
