Urgent - Pynesfield - the gravel extraction planning application that was rejected unanimously by TRDC Planning Committee, refused by Herts CC, and the appeal turned down by the Government Planning Inspector , has been submitted again. The site is alongside Denham Way near the junction with Tile House Lane. This would devastate the local environment, Green Belt, be disastrous for residents in that area of West Hyde and cause endless traffic problems on a road that already suffers from regular congestion from the motorway. The application 15/1254/HCR3 can be viewed on the TRDC website, in your own home or at TRDC. Please consider writing to TRDC and HCC if you share our deep concern about this. A short letter or email is what is needed to convey your view, by 21st July. ……………………………. Work to repair and restore the bridge over the Canal, along the Ebury Way, at the end of All Saints Lane, started on 6th July. Newsletter: Building momentum for reform

Spreading the word: The LDER exec, since the election, has been ensuring electoral reform stays high on the party's agenda as we recover and move ahead. We secured pro-reform commitments from both leadership candidates*; and a Liberal Democrat Voice post placed reform firmly within the context of liberal principle, calling on our many new (and current!) members to join our group. We are also sprucing up our own promotional materials, including a new pull-up banner, which will hopefully be on display at our Autumn Conference stall.

Forty-three years ago Michael Heseltine steered a bill through Parliament setting up the West Midlands County Council. Thirty-two years ago he fought a general election on the basis that it should be scrapped. He won and it was. Now reincarnated as Baron Heseltine of Thenford he is back arguing for the recreation of a West Midlands super-authority bigger and "more ambitious" than ever before.
