The Dairy Crest site in Alexandra Road, the Build Center opposite and the railway cutting land adjacent, are all considered to be potential sites for housing. A borough council public consultation, running until 24th October, suggests some 58 flats and houses are suitable for these three sites. Lib Dem councillors have asked the local press to pick up on the story of these sites (see local Guardian issue 29.9.11)
Having written on here recently that 'Pints in the Parishes' is re-starting soon, I can now confirm a full, new schedule of these events at local village pubs around the Borough. I wrote out to all Parish Councils in July, asking if they would like to nominate a local pub which might be a suitable venue for me to visit one evening and give local residents the chance to talk to me directly about any issues they want to raise, in an informal environment. Once again I got an excellent response from the Parish Councils, and I must thank them for their suggestions. I then drew pub names out of a hat, after at first restricting the initial draw to those villages in which I have not yet held a Pints in the Parishes session. Despite forcing Wiltshire residents to pay a massive increase in parking charges across Wiltshire it has been revealed that Conservative Councillors have spent £370,000 on resurfacing a car park that will only be used for a few years by councillors and staff at the council's temporary offices at Shurnhold in Melksham.

From the 1st October 2011 sales of tobacco from vending machines will be banned. This means it will be illegal to sell cigarettes or any other form of tobacco from an automated vending machine regardless of the age of the person. It will also be against the law for such machines to display advertisements or tobacco promotion.
