Since the General Election on Thursday more than 4,000 new members have joined the Liberal Democrats. That's a growth of almost 10% in Party Membership in less than three days. Membership of the Party locally has also gone up by 10%.
There is no doubt that the Election produced very painful results for the Liberal Democrats across the country, with many very good MPs and councillors losing their seats. However we live to fight another day, will work to promote our values, and stand up where we can for the principles we believe in. All Lib Dem members will get the chance to vote for the new leader of the party. They'll also be able to join in the reflections on what went wrong, and what lessons have to be learnt. Mayor Dave Hodgson has thanked voters across Bedford Borough, after a stunning victory in the mayoral election. Mayor Dave was re-elected with a majority of 8,789 over Jas Parmar, the Conservative candidate in second place, following the re-allocation of second preference votes under the supplementary voting system. The margin of victory was nearly 3,000 more than in the previous mayoral election in 2011.
