South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed news that the future of the Mountain Weather Information Service has been secured, following the threat of closure.
Statistics obtained by South Lakes MP Tim Farron show that a law introduced during the coalition government is helping to keep children across Cumbria safe from child sex offenders.
If you read any other paper than the Guardian, you will have noted some days ago a generously-covered story about the enormous 'lifetime tax bill' faced by British families. The 'average UK household' in 2014-15 was estimated to pay £826,000 in direct and indirect taxes over their working life, while the top 20% 'will pay £1,686,970' - a curiously exact figure for an estimate, and a claimed rise of 4.3% over the previous year. Milnrow and Newhey went under water again after the latest rainfall. Local Councillor Andy Kelly has slammed the council for ignoring residents and businesses plight. He is now calling for a full review into drainage systems in the Pennines and claimed that urgent action is needed. He is calling for a halt to any future developments until flooding is under control.
Parliamentary representation in the Borough is set to dramatically change after Boundary Commissioners decided to split the Rochdale Constituency. Balderstone and Kirkholt, Milnrow and Newhey, Littleborough Lakeside, Smallbridge and Firgrove and Wardle and West Littleborough is set to be part of the Littleborough and Saddleworth constituency. Central Rochdale, Healey, Kingsway, Milkstone and Deeplish and Spotland and Falinge is set to be in a new Rochdale Constituency alongside Bamford, Castleton, Norden and Heywood. All Middleton wards would become part of a new Prestwich and Middleton seat.
