Free early education will be extended to 140,000 disadvantaged two-year- olds, and parents will be able to access the free entitlement more flexibly, under plans published by the Government last week. In Blackburn and Darwen, around 600 two-year olds are expected to benefit from the proposals.

Lib Dem Councillor and well known Transport campaigner David Kendall has launched a campaign to save the 73 evening bus service which operates between Pilgrims Hatch and Warley via Brentwood High Street. The service, which has a County Council supported contract, is under threat of being axed because of low passenger numbers and a final decision on it's future is due to be made in the New Year. David is urging bus users and residents on the route who are concerned about losing this service to sign the Lib Dems online petition, and e-mail the County Council at local.busteam@essex.gov.uk or telephone 0845 6037631 to let the County Council know their views and how the axing of this service would affect them. David said: "There are very few evening bus services operating in Brentwood at the moment and we need to do all we can to save what we've got. Bedford Borough Council's Children's Services has received its annual assessment of children's services carried out by Ofsted, and the outcome is extremely positive. Ofsted has confirmed the Bedford Borough Children's Services assessment 2011 performs well and is a grade 3 on the 4 point scale. Performance in 2011 has improved from 2010 when the service was assessed as grade 2, or 'performs adequately.'
