New development in the understanding of pain.

University of Cambridge researchers involved in the study, which was reported in the journal Science, found that the removal of the HCN2 gene stopped chronic pain, but not acute pain. Acute pain is short-term pain lasting less than 12 weeks, while chronic pain is long-term pain lasting more than 12 weeks. The researchers say their findings could lead to new drugs being developed which block the protein produced by the HCN2 gene thus, hopefully, regulating neuropathic (nerve related) chronic pain.

Overnight work to resurface A20 near Folkestone

Overnight work starting Monday (12 September 2011) on the eastbound A20 near Folkestone, in Kent will involve resurfacing sections of the carriageway, replacing road studs, and repainting road markings between junction 13 of the M20 and the A20 junction with the B2011.

Call the cops on 101

From 19 September people in Wiltshire will be able to dial 101, a new national non-emergency telephone number for the police service. The 101 number is being introduced as part of the government's attempt to improve access to the police, ease pressure on 999 and help the police tackle crime and disorder.
