Caroline Pidgeon: I want to do something as Mayor rather than just ‘be’ someone

Lib-Dem candidate Caroline Pidgeon has 'seen better behaviour at my toddler's nursery' than in Zac and Sadiq's debates. Her policies are serious, she tells Pippa Crerar If the mayoral election was decided on a candidate's grasp of policy, there's a good chance Caroline Pidgeon would win it. The Lib-Dem hopeful - who has eight years on the London Assembly under her belt - has impressed even her better-known rivals with her inside knowledge of the City Hall empire. Zac Goldsmith tells me "she's great", before glancing at his media adviser and asking, "Am I allowed to say that?" Sadiq Khan agrees that her handle on London policy is impressive.

News from Rickmansworth Liberal Democrats - Three Rivers, a Lib Dem Run Council

Recent works have taken place at the Withey Beds - our local nature reserve. The work has been done by the Environment Agency and Watford Piscators and is designed to restore existing features and create new ones. The natural flow of the rivers has been protected and shallow areas provided for spawning. There is a fry nursery, flood refuge area and a nursery area for juvenile amphibians and invertebrates. The shallow margins ensure the water warms up quickly, providing conditions for fish to survive and grow. The final phase will include 2 new interpretation boards and a pasture pump so grazing cattle can draw water from the river when they need a drink. The annual guided tour is on Sunday 15th May, meet at the Batchworth Lock Centre at 2.00pm. Find out more at http://www.thewitheybeds.org.uk/ ……………………………………………………… Welly Walk at the Aquadrome on 12th April, 10.00am -12.00pm .meet by the Café and explore and see birds, mini beasts and early flowering plants with the Park Ranger. …………………………………………

Nick Clegg: Hypocritical Brexiteers are as much an elite as those they rage against

Prominent Leave campaigners say they are enemies of the establishment - but many of them are part of it In recent years the pillars of the establishment have been crumbling one by one. The MPs' expenses scandal, the financial crash, the Jimmy Savile cover-up, phone-hacking and other outrages have revealed elites putting greed, corruption, recklessness and cynicism ahead of the public good. The Panama Papers, with their revelations about the rich and powerful exploiting offshore tax havens, will only stoke the flames of public anger further. And understandably too. If your family's wellbeing has been hit by years of stagnant wages and austerity because of a crash in 2008 caused by financiers who seem to have got away scot free, you have every right to be angry when the richest in society still seem to be playing by another set of rules.
