Tories Forced to Rethink Cuts to Homelessness Services

Opposition Councillors on Leicestershire County Council have "called in" a decision by the Conservative run Cabinet to cut funding for prevention services for homeless people. The "call in" procedure can be used to force a re-think on a decision if councillors believe there is a flaw in the process or if evidence has not been listened to. The "call in" has been signed by Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors.

Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment Update

In line with national planning policy, the council prepares and maintains a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The SHLAA is an essential part of the evidence base for the preparation of Development Plan Documents (DPDs, now known as "Local Plans") in terms of providing information on potential sources of housing land. It is an 'open book' listing parcels of land which landowners and agents have submitted to the council for assessment. The SHLAA sites have no status in planning terms and should not be viewed as specific allocations of land for future housing development.

Unsafe Garages in Hillmorton

Local tenants living in Lever Road flats contacted your Hillmorton Focus team over their concerns about the garages in the area. Rugby Council has declared them unsafe and fenced the area off. County Councillor Richard Dodd said, "We welcome the fact that the Council has made the area safer but our concerns over this have not gone away. In the Hillmorton Focus we have regularly raised our concerns about the future of these sites as the Council seem to be letting them fall into decay."
