The Annual Council Meeting on Tuesday was more surreal than ever. We were back at the Town Hall Hendon following refurbishment; except that the works still had not been completed. Someone told me that the Town Hall resembled a building site on the previous Friday. Staff had worked all hours to make the Town Hall presentable for the Mayor making. Well done to the staff, but I for one would have been just as happy to have continued at Barnet House. Goodness knows what the cost to the taxpayer is for all the overtime.

Liz drops by as Birmingham Pride goes with a swing

Lib Dem MEP for the West Midlands Liz Lynne came along to join the revellers at Birmingham Pride this weekend. Our Lib Dem stall was busy all day with lots of support for our campaign for countries to recognise one anothers same-sex partnerships.

Kent Trading Standards: If it looks like an email scam, it probably is...

Kent Trading Standards has received of a number of complaints relating to unsolicited emails offering consumers the chance to make additional income by having money transferred into their account which they then forward to another account after taking a cut themselves. This then allows the scammer to access the consumer's bank account, which can result in the loss of large amounts of money.

It's time to Fix the Finances

Over the last four years, the Tories running Surrey County Council have provided poor services for residents, wasted millions of pounds of Council Taxpayers money and produced continual spin claiming that the council is "outstanding" when plainly it is not. The outcome of this sorry state of affairs is the demotion of the Council by the Audit Commission from a 4 Star council in 2005 to a 1 Star council in 2008.
