Visiting One of Bedford's Hidden Giants!

When I talk to people about the major firms located here in Bedford Borough, I am always struck by the fact that the presence of Fujifilm UK's Head Office does not seem to be widely known. They actually have 14 buildings at the St Martin's Way Business Park alone! It's another example of the major businesses we host here in Bedford which would be the envy of any town in the country. As part of the 'Open for Business' programme I launched after becoming Mayor I visited Fujifilm UK last week to talk to senior management figures about their business and how the Council can support them to continue to thrive here in Bedford Borough.

Blackpool disabled 'marooned' by benefit plans

Many disabled people in Blackpool could be left "marooned" in care homes if plans to change the Disability Living Allowance go ahead, an MP claims. The £49.85 a week mobility part of the allowance for working-age people in care, which goes towards trips out, will be cut in the Welfare Reform Bill.

Funding gap is being faced by Social Care.

Social care is facing a funding gap of more than £1bn by 2014 in England - a situation which would have consequences for the NHS, a leading think-tank says. The King's Fund analysis predicted councils would struggle to protect home help and care home places as they come to terms with funding cuts.
