Swedish presidency should pressure Obama on HIV travel

After a long campaign last summer US president Bush signed a law that promised to remove the ban on non-US citizens living with HIV travelling to the US. The arrangements put in place however only allow for a temporary visa of 30 days to be issued under the condition that the HIV positive person's activities while in the US do not present a risk to public health.

The Hythe West by-elections were well and truly overdue. We had to wait a long time for the Conservatives, as a body, to acknowledge the wishes of the residents in wanting their absent Councillors to step down. Indeed, our Conservative MP didn't attempt to speed this matter along either.

Lib Dems' Eleventh Hour Bid to save Warden Service sunk by Chairman's casting vote

Barnet Liberal Democrats' last ditch effort to save the Sheltered Housing Service floundered this evening (18 June) on the Chairman of the Business Management Overview and Scrutiny sub Committee's casting vote. Cllr Jack Cohen, leader of Barnet Liberal Democrats, had called in the cabinet decision to scrap the Sheltered Housing Warden Service. Cllr Cohen, who had forced Conservative Cabinet Member Richard Cornelius to justify the proposed cuts, said he was bitterly disappointed with the outcome.
