Dear Editor, At this month's Council meeting Wiltshire Liberal Democrats raised both our County's preparations for Brexit and tangible recognition for our armed forces and blue light services.
On the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the start of his first term as Mayor of Bedford Borough, Mayor Dave Hodgson has said a big 'thank you' to everyone who has voted for him, supported local campaigns or who has in any way been part of the shared effort to make our communities and Bedford Borough as a whole an even better place to live in.
In a pre-Budget speech to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable has called for a series of reforms to Universal Credit. These include the reversal of cuts to the work allowance, worth around £3bn a year, and ending the benefits freeze a year early.
"Stop playing with my future" and "we were lied to" were just two of the placards that were seen by our roving members from Rugby Lib Dems as they joined the rally through London last Saturday to demand a new Brexit referendum. Well, to be clear, neither of them actually marched. Rugby Lib Dems member and campaigner Laura started with the march, but the centre of London was brought almost to a halt by the 700,000 people who joined the march.
Slough Lib Dems joined about 700,000 other people in marching through London on Sat 20 Oct calling for the people to be allowed a vote on whether to accept the final Brexit deal, or reject it and remain in the EU.
