The result of the by-election was announced last night. Labour won the seat with the Liberal democrats second and Conservative trailing behind in 3rd place.

Save the Children Haiti Fund Day at Leicester City Council

A number of events are being organised throughout the City and Leicester City Council to continue to help the people of Haiti who have survived this devastating earthquake. Freemen Ward Councillor Dale Keeling initiated the idea of a 'Dress down' day and donate a pound to the cause.

Eaglescliffe Liberal Democrat councillors are disappointed to read the long-awaited report to Stockton Council's Cabinet on proposals for secondary schools in Eaglescliffe, Yarm and Ingleby Barwick. The report shows that not only the overflow car park but the nearby allotment site and much of the field below the car park would be needed if Egglescliffe School were to be rebuilt on Preston Park. But the report does not state clearly the many reasons for rejecting the idea of building on Preston Park, a suggestion which has been loudly condemned by residents of Eaglescliffe and across the region. The report states: Development of a school within the park and allotment site…could contribute significantly to realising aspects of the Park Masterplan (e.g. improved community leisure facilities, parking and road layout, visual amenity).

Liberal Democrats launch policy to end empty homes scandal

Liberal Democrats in Chelmsford have set out plans to bring empty houses back into use, making homes available for people who need them and creating local jobs. Stephen Robinson, who is bidding to be the town's Liberal Democrat MP, commented: "Allowing houses to sit empty whilst families are waiting for a home is nothing short of a scandal. There are 1,551 empty houses in Chelmsford and 18,170 across Essex.
