New 111 service will be better than NHS Direct

Liberal Democrat Health Minister Paul Burstow says the new NHS 111 service will benefit patients. The Coalition Government announced the intention to establish NHS 111 in the Health White Paper in July. The new service is being piloted in four areas before being rolled out in 2013.

Pilgrims Hospice Coffee Morning

Having been involved with the fundraising team for the Pilgrim's Hospice for many years, it feels like I am one of the community rather than a guest. The monthly Coffee Morning is more than just fund raising. It is an opportunity for the team to regroup and socialise. I am delighted that the event is so well supported by the people of Folkestone and I am sure it will continue to be so.

No Hotel for West Park?

The Developers of the West Park former hospital site have announced that, despite extensive marketing, the requirement in the borough council's agreed planning brief to develop the former Administration Building as an hotel and conference centre has failed to attract any interest from potential operators. Instead they propose an additional 87 housing units, bringing the total proposed for West Park to 456 new homes.

Cllr Barry Aspinell wins right to appeal and returns to council duties

Following his suspension on 12th July 2010 regarding the wording of a leaflet, Cllr Barry Aspinell has been granted an appeal by the Standards Board for England and returned to his duties as borough councillor for Pilgrims Hatch and Lib Dem Deputy Leader on 25th August. He was originally suspended until 31st August.

On track for 2012 and Beyond at Bedford International Athletics Stadium

Work to relay the track at Bedford International Athletics Stadium on Barkers Lane started last week, and I went along to see how things were going. It is a major investment, but the old track was in sore need of replacing after more than 20 years. The new surface will be one of just a small handful in the country which matches that which will be used in the 20102 Olympic stadium, and will enable Bedford Borough to continue hosting major events in Bedford while offering local athletes and schoolchildren high quality facilities.
