Hospital beds in England may fill up with the elderly and vulnerable because of cuts to local authority social care funding, a top NHS figure has warned. The claim came from the head of the NHS Confederation, Nigel Edwards, in a letter to the Daily Telegraph. Mr Edwards said people who needed medical treatment may be denied a hospital bed as a result of the cuts.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said the government was still considering its response to the Browne Report, which recommended unlimited fees but said fees would be capped. He said the government wanted to take the "best" parts of the Browne report to build a system that was fairer to poorer students but also gave the top universities the funding boost they needed. Mr Clegg told BBC One's Andrew Marr show he regretted ditching his pre-election commitment to scrapping tuition fees, but it had to be done due to the financial situation the country was in.

Lib Dem County Councillors Stephen Cooksey and David Goodwin have worked for some months as part of a small Council Task Group established to make recommendations about improving the chaotic arrangements that the County had in place when the heavy snow fell last winter.
