Clampdown on unfair bank charges welcome - Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats

Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed government measures to clamp down on unexpected bank charges following a review of consumer credit and personal insolvency. Liberal Democrats in government led calls to end unfair bank charges and give consumers more choice. Measures to be implemented include: End introductory offers for store cards that tempt customers into expensive credit arrangements Ensure bank customers have the option of getting text or email alerts if they are close to going into the red The Coalition Government's response came from Liberal Democrat Business Minister Ed Davey and follows last year's Private Members Bill calling for an end to unfair bank charges by Co-chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Business Committee, Lorely Burt. Commenting, Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman Cllr Michael Mullaney said: "The measures are a welcome step for consumers, they will give people more information, choice and power. Farron meets national cancer chief to press case for radiotherapy at Kendal

This morning South Lakes MP Tim Farron, met with the Government's National Clinical Director for Cancer and End of Life Care, Professor Sir Mike Richards, to discuss his campaign to bring a radiotherapy unit to Westmorland General Hospital. Tim was delighted with the outcome of the meeting which he said was "an important step towards winning our campaign for radiotherapy at Kendal."
