The end of Phil Woolas' Political Career

Phil Woolas was MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth from 1997 and, until today, Labour's shadow Immigration Minster, appointed to that last role just a few weeks ago by new Labour Leader Ed Miliband. Today, a court judged that he had been guilty of an illegal practice during his election campaign worthy of declaring his 103 vote election win at the 2010 election void.

Foxgloves to Remain Open Under New Proposals for Respite Care- Cllr David Sawyer

Foxgloves respite centre is set to remain open after Bedford Borough Council produced new plans for sustainable provision of respite care in the area. The new plans have been produced after close consultation with parents and users of the centre. Cllr David Sawyer, Liberal Democrat Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said, "This process has been about finding a sustainable way to provide respite care services and by working with families involved and staff of the centre we have found a way to do this which involves keeping Foxgloves open. These proposals will now come to the Council's Executive in December.

Allotment site

Councillors demand more information on Allotment Sites

Lib Dem councillors have asked for more information on new allotment sites to be brought forward for discussion. A meeting of the council's Leisure Committee debated a new agreement for self-managed allotment sites and prompted a discussion on the potential for new sites around the borough.

Parkfield school

Campaign for community use of Parkfield School

Councillors from Springvale and Blakenhall ward have got together to try and keep part of the buildings on the Parkfield school site when its is vacated by the new Academy as they move to their new site in Bilston. Cllr Richard Whitehouse said, "There is a perfectly good swimming facility here which I am sure the local residents would like to be able to use and other buildings that would be good for community use." Cllr. Malcolm Gwinnett added, "There is also a fairly new Trade Craft building that could but utilised by local youngsters training for a building trade."
