Unfair Post Office Council Tax Charge Set to be Scrapped at Long Last

Following a long campaign by the Liberal Democrats Bedford Borough Council is set to remove the charge on the payment of council tax bills at the post office. The charge was introduced in April 2006 in the face of fierce opposition from the Liberal Democrat Group, and has caused footfall to drop in local post offices while adding almost an additional £25 onto the council tax bills of residents who use their local branch for payments. As a result of pressure from the Liberal Democrats, however, a meeting of the Council's Executive on Wednesday is set to remove the charge from April 2010.

No Exciting Facilities for the Young People of the Borough of Stockton

Stockton's children and young people are missing out on fun and excitement compared to their neighbours in the other Tees Valley local authorities it was revealed at a Council meeting last Wednesday. Eaglescliffe Councillor Alan Lewis (Lib Dem) asked the Cabinet member for Children & Young People what plans the council had to address the concerns of the residents that there aren't enough facilities for the young people of the borough,

Mickey Mouse Council

Tuesday's full Council meeting had very few people in the public gallery. At least this Mayor does not kick off proceedings by warning the "public" they will be thrown out if they make a noise. Perhaps the attitude of the previous incumbent has turned the public off.

Dave Ledsom was a local businessman and a stalwart of Bedford Rugby Club. Today I went along before today's match for the presentation of the Dave Ledsom Civic Award, launched by Bedford Borough Council, to Mrs Ledsom.
