Labour's immigration tough talking just hot air - Nick Clegg

It will take "years not months" to get the immigration service working the way it should, its boss has told MPs. Lin Homer, Immigration and Nationality Directorate chief, spoke as the Home Office was given six weeks to draw up a plan to make it "fit for purpose". She told the Commons home affairs committee it would take "at least a couple of years" to get the service "into the shape I would like".

Schools adjudicator now has final say in Middleton!

At a meeting of the School's Organisation Committee, the future of Alkrington Moss Primary School in Middleton is now looking brighter. The majority decision of the Committee was to keep the school open for the foreseeable future. Cllr. David Clayton, Portfolio Holder for Children's, Schools and Families said, "The procedure in the School's Reorganisation Committee is a strange one. Our Councillors had to come to a unanimous decision across all parties, I am delighted to announce that the Liberal Democrats were finally backed by Labour in making this decision. This is a U-Turn from Labour's previous decision to close the school, made at a Cabinet Meeting earlier this year. Unfortunately, the Conservative Member of the Committee was unable to attend and show support for a school that plays such a vital role in Middleton life.
