Surrey Lib Dems welcomed a stunning U turn by Tory Surrey County Council. Just weeks after making a third of all highways staff redundant the council has admitted, after Lib Dem pressure, that it has to recruit new staff to cope with a horrendous backlog.

WOKING COUNCIL LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREEN FUTURE

Leader of the Executive Cllr Sue Smith, Planning Portfolio Holder Cllr Philip Goldenberg and Environment Portfolio Holder Cllr Ken Howard were joined by Deputy Chief Executive, Douglas Spinks, to send the document on its way for approval by the Government Office Councillors and senior officers from Woking Borough Council gathered in the Chamber last night (26 October 2006) to sign the final draft of Woking's Core Strategy - a key document which sets out plans for the future development of the Borough.

Carbon Emission's in Wolverhampton Unsustainable

Dramatic new figures revealed by the Liberal Democrats show that Wolverhampton is doing better than the country as a whole in keeping down emissions of the gases that cause climate change, but is still emitting more than twice as much carbon dioxide as the global average.

More power for Middleton!

Middleton Township will have much more power as a result of the new Council Policy of devolving as much responsibility as possible. The devolution, part of the Liberal Democrat Manifesto will now start to make a real difference on how this Council is run. 1st April 1974 was the date when Middleton ceased to be an independent Borough. Much of their dwindling powers were taken over by Rochdale, previous the former County Council called most of the shots. Middleton is now set to have its own 'Town Hall', which will be a vocal point for accessing Council Services. Indeed, the Middleton Township is set to have MORE power than the previous Middleton Borough Council.
