New recycling bins in Bedford Town Centre introduced by Liberal Democrat Mayor Dave Hodgson have seen just over ½ tonne of plastic bottles and drink cans collected in less than two months. The new recycling bins, which have been called for by Liberal Democrats on the Council for many years, were introduced following Dave Hodgson's election as Mayor. They are already helping to save local taxpayers money by reducing landfill costs and are enabling residents to recycle 'on-the-go' in the town centre for the first time.
Campaigners from the European Breast Cancer coalition joined Lib Dem MEP Liz Lynne in Brussels this week to lobby Euro MPs to sign up to a call for universal cancer screening for women between the ages of 50 and 69.
Council tax payers in Chelmsford town centre face a much higher council tax rise than in the areas with parish councils. The average increase in Chelmsford Borough's Council Tax is 2.9% but the unparished (town) area - some 40% of the Borough residents - will be hit by a massive 5.9% increase when most people have seen no increase in their incomes.

Liberal Democrats in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead have welcomed the recent reduction in council tax, however they do not welcome the extra £17.4 million in Stealth Tax fees and charges that the Conservatives are taking form residents purses and wallets.
